Our little man is now 4 months old. Crazy! He is more fun everyday and watching him learn is so precious. Here are the new things he is doing at 4 months.
- He weighed in at 15lbs 14 oz and is 25 inches long (only 1 1/2 inches longer than his daddy when he was born).
- He loves to stand on your lap and look around. He can almost hold all of his body weight.
- He rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time on Friday, February 6th. I screamed for joy! I think it scared him at first and then he smiled back - I think he knew he had done something amazing! He has only done it a couple more time but we are working on that tummy time!
- Everything is always in his mouth including his hands. Instead of sucking his fingers and toys he now chomps on them. ALL THE TIME!
- He talks constantly when awake and he is very polite. When having a conversation he will wait until you are done talking before he responds.
- He is now reaching for toys and transfering them between his hands. This may not sound like such a big deal but it was a question on his development chart at the doctors office so I thought I would include it! :)
I guess that is about it for new things - he is just doing more of what he did in month 3 and always has a smile. He has started going to bed between 7:30 and 8 so he is back up eating at night since he is going down so early. I am trying to decide when to start solids - I have no idea what I am doing so I may wait for a bit.
Last but not least - Pierson will most likely be getting a helmet at 5 months old. This has been a tough decision because I feel like parents who have children in helmets are looked down upon as if they have done something wrong. Pierson was very cramped in the womb and his right neck muscle is VERY tight (medical term is torticollis) so when he was born and still to this day he prefers his right side, which means when he sleeps he is ALWAYS on the back right of his head. This has caused a flat spot and he is going to need a helmet to correct it. He will also be in physical therapy for a while. He will probably be in the helmet for 3 months or so and he will have to wear it for 23 hours a day. Nate and I are sad but know it is what is best for him. Here is a little boy in a helmet and he is pretty cute!

He is getting so big and is so darn cute!!
Don't be sad about the helmet thing--it's a good thing! I've had several friends whose babies have had to wear the helmet for a while and it's not a big deal! You can decorate them and make them look really cute, too!
He is a doll baby!!
And do not be upset about the helmet. Triston wore one for about 5 - 6 months and it was amazing!! Seems big babies are prone to torticollis. The Star Center is amazing, (I am assuming that is where you are going. nancy is the best!) And Triston adapted to it with no problem - didn't bother him one bit.
We did receive some stares and questions from the public and you learn to reply kindly and with information to those who are interested and loving. And you will learn to glare at those who are whispering and at times inform them that it is rude to whisper and stare!
Be happy his helmet treatment will occur in the Spring months. The summer months can get a bit sweaty!!
Pierson has beautiful eyes!
We attempted solids for the first time yesterday - i made brown rice mush and carson hated it :) we couldn't stop laughing at him, though he was obviously ticked, his faces were hilarious.
sorry about the helmet, but how reassuring to know that your doctors have a good diagnosis for him and are intervening before things become a problem. we're trying to come to dallas next month - hopefully we can get together!
Also, regarding "not knowing what you're doing when it comes to feeding solids" i have to recommend this book my mom just picked up at williams sonoma. it's called "Cooking for Baby" and it's all about making your own baby food - how to feed them, and when to feed them what. i LOVE it and it's so fun making Carson's food.
Hey, girl, Pierson is soo cute. I love helmets and don't be afraid to show it off. You are very creative and I know will decorate it cute too! I agree to all the other comments as well. Good Luck with the solid feeding. My 25lb boy is 9 months and HATES eating solids. Everyone thinks he must he table food for how big he is but its just the opposite. We tried speech therapy to see if there was something wrong and there wasn't. So we are still working hard everyday to get him to like it.
Hey Melissa - don't worry what anyone thinks about the helmet, just do what is best for your little one :) I'm sure you may get a few stares, but people are just curious. I would have had no idea what they are for unless my friend had one for her baby. Besides, nothing could take away from Pierson's cuteness!!! Here are pictures of my friend's baby when he had one a couple years ago. She had it hand painted with A&M theme.SO cute!
