So I have been hearing for many months now that if you take the time to clip coupons, become a member of the Grocery Game and check out some other sites you can save BIG at the grocery store. I also heard that you would need to go to multiple stores - that part I was not interested in -getting out with a 6 month old for one shopping trip is hard enough.
Well, I finally caved and tried it out. I have been clipping coupons for about a month now. We buy the Sunday paper and I go through and clip what I think we could use, even things I think we wont use. This week I joined the Grocery Game and got my list to Kroger. I have heard Kroger is one of the best places because of the Kroger Plus Card and they double and triple some coupons.
So my goal was to buy 2 weeks worth of groceries, which includes enough for me to cook 6 meals and have leftovers. I headed out this morning with my list and 22 coupons to see what I could save.
I bought:
-milk
-4 12 packs of soda
-4 Lean Cusines
-3 Stoufers Meals
-Soy Sauce
-Dry Sherry
-Dark Sesame Oil
-Rotel
-Turkey lunch meat
-2 lbs of boneless skinless chicken
-3 cans of chicken broth
-2 cans of black beans
-corn
-onion
-ginger
-avacado
-whole wheat and flour tortillas
-Smart Start cereal
-Frosted Mini Wheats
-Shredded Cheese
-Doritos
-Tortilla Chips
-2 cans of Pringles
-coffee
-coffee creamer
-frozen sugar snap peas
-brocolli and cheese
-2 potatoes
-Cinnamon Rolls
-2 Cresent Rolls
-Skinny Cow Ice Cream bars
-Laughing Cow Cheese
-2 Deli Creations sandwiches
-2 Uncle Bens Long Grain Rice
-Rice Cakes
-Eggo Waffles
-Baked Cheetos
-Secert Deodorant
-2 Jumbo packs of Pampers
-Formula
-6 Yoplait Yogurts
-Downy
-Gillette Body Wash
- Crest
-Cascade
-Grapes
-4 Reeses Eggs
-red bell pepper
-2 things of popcorn
-2 packs of gum
-vitamin water
-zucchini
-ragu
-Jergens lotion
-softsoap
-strawberries
-whole wheat pasta
-spaghetti
-Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner
- 3 other things that I cant remember or read on the recipet :)
Before coupons and savings - 270.34
After - 201.52
So I saved close to 70 bucks just by taking the time and I only went to one store. 200 dollars might still seem like a lot to some but I bought diapers and formula which are huge costs and this was my very first time! So I am so excited and cant believe I didnt do this sooner! Nate is happy that I am saving money but thinks I am going crazy. It is an addiction! I cant wait to see how much money I can save in a couple of weeks!

I have a probably REALLY STUPID question about coupons.
What does double/triple coupons mean? Does that mean they'll scan your one coupon once/twice? Or, does it mean you can use two/three coupons for one item? Or, does it mean that you can use two/three different coupons (manufacturer's & store's) for one item?
Coupons confuse me! I actually signed up for the Grocery Game about a year ago, but got so confused I never really did anything with it. But, I definitely think that if it was something that I could figure out, I would totally love it!
I'm writing down all the names for the drawing in the morning, and clicked over to meet you!
I'm so excited you saved so much money!!
Look at you go!
Heather
That is so good to know and thanks for posting your grocery list. I never take the time to clip the coupons but you have motivated me to start!
Yes, both in Frisco! But the first one sold this morning, above listing price... which took the Piersons out of the game. :) We do need to catch up, we are hopefully moving at the end of May or beginning of June. I'll let you know.
So fun that you started the grocery game! I just had my first trip with coupone and the grocery game yesterday! I, however went to 4 stores (won't be a regular occurance though!), just to get the best deals but bought enough to last us probably the entire month, maybe longer. I was so proud to get $310 worth of groceries for only $170! Anyway, glad to knw I have another "gamer" friend!!
Happy Birthday! I can't find you on FB and I'm pretty sure the cell # I have for you is old. So...sending my birthday wishes here! Hope you have a great day! Looking forward to celebrating Easter and birthdays on Sunday!
So happy that you're couponing! You'll love the deals you can get. I've been doing that for years and, really, there's no need to go anywhere but Kroger. With coupons, you can't beat the deals anywhere else. CouponMom.com is FREE (unlike Grocery Game), has the same info/coupons as GG, and comes out after the Wednesday ad...not after the coupons on Sunday. Also - Kroger's sales run for 2 weeks from the release of the ad. SO, if there's a deal and a coupon for something that you need all of the time, you can go to Ebay and buy 10-20 coupons for that item and then go to Kroger (after they've restocked from the Grocery Gamers' clearing them out) and get a ton of stuff for free or really inexpensively. Anyway...I have LOTS of tips for couponing if you ever want me to share.
See you on Sunday!
Thanks for the coupon explanation! ;) I'm going to figure out the coupon thing if it kills me. Too bad Lubbock doesn't have a Kroger....OR a Tom Thumb.....OR an Albertsons. All we have is United. Monopoly? Definitely!
