What was I thinking?

So I cant quite remember when it was that I blogged about being tired and not sleeping well because I was pregnant...HA! I think back now and if I only new how great that sleep was! So Pierson was sleeping well (never all the way through the night but close) but he has digressed. He has decided he is not into staying up past 7:30 at night so that means he is waking up between 2 and 4 these days. That is to eat, the other 2 times is because he wants his paci back. Really? Will I be waking up in the middle of the night until I take his paci away? I remember talking with my good friend Katie about how she had not slept through the night for 7 months (last month or so of pregnancy and since her daughter was born), well I am getting close to 6, 6 months! That is amazing to me, in college I would crash without sleep, I mean get sick, not be able to function. Now, you would never know I only slept a combined 4 hours last night (the dog was sick too - it is a zoo around here). Nate is the same way - to work he goes and you would never know.

I often think about the wonderful glorious hours of sleep I used to get and know that it will be back one day - just about the time we decide we are ready for another kid! :)

4 months

Our little man is now 4 months old. Crazy! He is more fun everyday and watching him learn is so precious. Here are the new things he is doing at 4 months.

- He weighed in at 15lbs 14 oz and is 25 inches long (only 1 1/2 inches longer than his daddy when he was born).

- He loves to stand on your lap and look around. He can almost hold all of his body weight.

- He rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time on Friday, February 6th. I screamed for joy! I think it scared him at first and then he smiled back - I think he knew he had done something amazing! He has only done it a couple more time but we are working on that tummy time!

- Everything is always in his mouth including his hands. Instead of sucking his fingers and toys he now chomps on them. ALL THE TIME!

- He talks constantly when awake and he is very polite. When having a conversation he will wait until you are done talking before he responds.

- He is now reaching for toys and transfering them between his hands. This may not sound like such a big deal but it was a question on his development chart at the doctors office so I thought I would include it! :)

I guess that is about it for new things - he is just doing more of what he did in month 3 and always has a smile. He has started going to bed between 7:30 and 8 so he is back up eating at night since he is going down so early. I am trying to decide when to start solids - I have no idea what I am doing so I may wait for a bit.

Last but not least - Pierson will most likely be getting a helmet at 5 months old. This has been a tough decision because I feel like parents who have children in helmets are looked down upon as if they have done something wrong. Pierson was very cramped in the womb and his right neck muscle is VERY tight (medical term is torticollis) so when he was born and still to this day he prefers his right side, which means when he sleeps he is ALWAYS on the back right of his head. This has caused a flat spot and he is going to need a helmet to correct it. He will also be in physical therapy for a while. He will probably be in the helmet for 3 months or so and he will have to wear it for 23 hours a day. Nate and I are sad but know it is what is best for him. Here is a little boy in a helmet and he is pretty cute!

Poor Thing

Well I guess since I am in the business of blogging about all of Pierson's firsts I must add first cold/sickness! I noticed yesterday that the little man was starting to get a runny nose and just started praying it wouldnt amount to anything. Well, he was up for a lot of the night last night and has a full blown cold - snotty, cough, sneezing. I just feel so bad for him and oh how I wish I could teach him to blow his nose, he sounds so horrible and he has a melt down just about every time I put saline in his nose and use the bulb. He is having a really difficult time staying alseep because everytime he sneezes or coughs he wakes himself up so naps are few and far between. What makes it even better is that I am getting a cold too. Lovely. I feel more and more like a mom everyday! :)

3 months old!

Pierson was three months old yesterday! Sometimes it is hard to believe and other times I feel like he has been here forever! He is becoming more responsive and so much fun these days! It is amazing how fast they learn and grow. Nate and I measured him to the best of our ability and it looks like he is coming in between 23 1/2 and 24 inches long and probably weighs around 13 1/2 pounds! It is amazing how much bigger he is now. These are pictures from his first week home.
Here are some things about Pierson at 3 months...

- He is sleeping through the night most nights. He will wake up between 5 and 6 and then goes back down until about 8:30. It is wonderful and Nate and I are feeling very rested!

- He loves to put his hands and fingers in his mouth. He has now started doing this to help himself fall asleep.

- I have been trying to get him on a schedule to no avail! Some days he sleeps, other days he doesnt and the days he doesnt sleep you would never know it - he is the exact same kid! He has always gone down really well and never cried when going down for naps or bedtime...until yesterday! All of the sudden he decided he no longer likes his crib...he would scream for about 5 minutes before falling asleep...who knows! He has pretty much decided he will go to sleep when he is ready...hence the picture below. He fell asleep while playing.

- He started "talking" a couple of weeks ago and it is precious to hear. If you talk to him he will usually smile and try to talk back. This last week he started talking while playing and when we ride in the car. It is so fun to listen to and Nate and I just laugh. Here he is talking to Granny (Nate's grandmother).

- He realized the other day that his hands can move objects. He is batting at his bouncer and activity gym and started grabbing things yesterday. Last night at dinner he was grabbing Nate's pinking and putting it in his mouth and sucking away. I think he was hungry! He got a hold of his paci the other day and was so stinkin cute!

- He is getting better at holding his head up when sitting up and during tummy time. Here he is sitting up like a big boy in his Bumbo.

- We read a lot of stories. This was story time a few days ago and Bently decided to join in. (Just a little jelousy going on).

We are having a blast and I cant wait to see what new things he is doing at 4 months!
I was going to upload some video but blogger isnt letting me do it. I will try later!

Sleeping through the night!!!

For the past 3 nights Pierson has been sleeping through the night! He goes down around 8:30 and wakes up between 5:30 and 6! It is so glorious and wonderful and we are so proud of him. Just a month ago we were still getting up 2 times a night so I thought that sleeping throught the night would be a long way away! I do find myself waking up in the night when he used to get up...I guess it is just habit and as soon as I go check on him (gotta make sure he is still breathing - I wonder if people do this with their other kids after the first!) I go right back to sleep! Now if I could get the kid on some kind of schedule during the day, we would be set! Stay tuned for a post all about Pierson - he is almost 3 months old and I was tagged by my friend Jana so I will be blogging away!
